VERSE 1:
They fought so hard, like they did before
There were crashing lamps and banging doors.
Then a quiet house, no more yelling now,
'Cause his wife left home when the sun went down;
That's when he told the kids ...
CHORUS:
"Momma's not coming home tonight.
We once loved each other, now nothing feels right.
We're both real sad things fell apart --
Momma's gone, but she loves you with all her heart.
But Momma's not coming home tonight."
VERSE 2:
The distance between them grew like a wall;
He fished with the boys, she shopped at the mall.
He took the car to work and stayed till nine,
And she passed time at home, feeling life pass by.
VERSE 3:
Then she spoke to her Momma, like some women do,
Said, "I'm losing myself -- walls closing in, too.
I've got to have time, find some space of my own;
Left a note for the kids, said, 'I still love you so.'"
That's when he told the kids ...
CHORUS
BRIDGE:
For so many months he tried not to see her love die,
Until he saw her note that was telling him goodbye.
CHORUS
END:
"No, Momma's not coming home tonight."
